Over the course of this adventurous two-hour tour, you will visit carefully curated, off-the-beaten-path food vendors in neighborhoods (and alleyways) around Stone Town.


You will interact with vendors and learn about Zanzibari food culture while sampling a variety of local foods and beverages.


Through it all, you will feel like a true Stone Town insider who's spending time with an old friend (your awesome host, Lodi)!

Q: Who is this tour intended for?

A: Eat Like a Zanzibari was created for visitors who want to authentically engage with local cuisine and local people. If you're seeking a comprehensive historical city tour, fine dining or Western-style restaurants, this tour may not be your cup of chai.


Q: Is the tour suitable for children and do you offer a different rate?

A: Our tour is child friendly, but most fun for kids who are open to trying new foods! For children ages 6-12, the cost to participate is $20. We do not charge for children under 6.


Q: How do you ensure the food is safe to eat?

A: We have selected vendors who consistently demonstrate a commitment to food safety. Despite its popularity, we do not sample street seafood as we cannot guarantee its freshness.


Q:Is the tour suitable for vegetarians or vegans?

A: Absolutely, Zanzibari food can be very veg and vegan friendly. Just let us know in advance.


Q: Can you accommodate food allergies or dietary restrictions on the tour?

A: For the most part, yes. Please let us know about any restrictions when booking.


Q: How much walking is involved in the tour?

A: The tour involves approximately 2km of walking at a comfortable pace.


Q: What is the maximum group size for the tour?

A: To maintain a personalized experience, tours will not exceed 6 guests. For private tours or larger groups, please inquire about availability and pricing.


Q: Do I need to dress in a particular way for the tour?

A: While there's no dress code, it's seen as a sign of respect for women to cover their shoulders and knees while exploring Stone Town.


Q: How do I pay for my tour and what currency can I use?

A: Payment is required at the start of the tour. We are currently cash-only and accept US Dollars ($35) and Tanzanian Shillings (88,000Tsh).


Q: Can I book a last minute tour or change/cancel my tour?

A: Book at least 48 hours in advance to guarantee your spot. For last minute bookings, send us a text and we'll let you know ASAP if there's availability! As for changing/canceling, we embrace the flexibility of island life and understand plans change. Please give us a 12+ hour heads up.


Q: Are there restrooms available during the food tour?

A: Yes. We know all the fancy hotels in town. :)
